Ivo Tchernev was born in Sofia, Bulgaria and moved to the United States in 1993 with his family. He is one of the founding partners of the Law Offices of Jacobson & Tchernev. Mr. Tchernev received his B.A. in Psychology from Georgetown University in 2004.
In 2010, Mr. Tchernev received his J.D. from Chicago Kent- College of Law. While at Chicago Kent, Mr. Tchernev received awards for his work in trial advocacy and was selected to the Dean’s List. He has been licensed to practice law in Illinois since that time.
Prior to opening the Law Offices of Jacobson & Tchernev, Mr. Tchernev interned with the Public Defender’s Office working exclusively on homicide cases. Mr. Tchernev focuses his practice on personal injury claims, criminal defense, contract, and corporate law matters. Mr. Tchernev frequently represents the firm’s corporate clients in Federal and State courts for various claims, ranging from breach of contract claims to complex litigation involving television piracy claims. Mr. Tchernev also handles the firm’s appellate work, recently having authored the winning brief in the First District Appellate case of Zlatev v. Millette, 2015 IL App (1st) 143173, wherein the First District Appellate Court upheld the trial court’s ruling on adding a defendant to the case after the two year statute of limitation had expired, based on a theory of mistaken identity.
Ivo Tchernev, a first generation immigrant, knows very well the difficulties most Bulgarians face when dealing with legal situations in this country. That is why Ivo Tchernev is active in the Bulgarian community and has written many articles to educate the Bulgarian community in Chicago about their legal rights and the protections of the law in Illinois.
Mr. Tchernev is also a member of a variety of different local legal associations including the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
